Thanks guys! I guess I’m just getting greedy. I already share my IO with an older dual G4 and my Dual 2.5 G5, and am mainly getting the Mac Book Pro to help archive P2 footage from my HVX-200 while in the field. So do you think doing 8-bit uncompressed using the firewire 800 port for the new Lacie 1TB D2 Extreme drive, and the IO on the Firewire 400 slot would conflict?? It would be awesome if it would work for my smaller 8 bit projects..

It looks like he was using the FS-4 and not the FS-100, so he was not doing HD or 24 fps footage. What is interesting to me is that even the DV footage on the FS-4 seems to have the same problems as the FS-100 HD 24fps clips in FCP HD. Not a good sign….

No Autodesk bought Maya. I would love it if Apple became the Autodesk Inferno/Flame killer though!

I agree with David. The whole attraction to FCP was that it was/is the most affordable way to do HD. That is why I jumped ship from Discreet back in the early Cinewave days. By 2008 most of the heavy lifting should be done by the new (2/4/8/16?)core Intel processor machines. Boxx technologies already has 16 core workstations pumping out realtime 2k/4k now, for less than 10k.

June 12, 2006 at 9:02 pm in reply to: Cutting Multicam Performance NIGHTMARE….Panny HVX-200 Footage..Help Pls…I guess I have been lucky. This is not my first and only shoot with the Firestore 100. I also have used the Nnovia A2D for capturing SD footage for years and have yet to be burned. I am very careful to tether the cables with velcro so there is never strain on either end. Maybe that is why I have had a 100% success rate all these years. In my market I have had to deal with several camera newbies who seldom really know how to properly match settings on any of the new HD and HDV camcorders, but got them because they were so cheap. Many people find out too late that their camera ops don’t know what they are doing. Over in the FCP forum, one producer is getting a mix of 1080i60fps, 720P24P and under/over-cranked 720PN footage from camera operators who don’t know what they are doing. So far the Firestore solution has been ideal for me. I am also anxiously awaiting the release of the Ciprico unit, as I want to take full advantage of the HVX 200 in the native shooting mode. Until the P2 cards come down to a reasonable price, I’m afraid I’ll have to wait on those!

June 12, 2006 at 5:26 am in reply to: Cutting Multicam Performance NIGHTMARE….Panny HVX-200 Footage..Help Pls…I just shot (4) 1.5 hour dance performances back to back every night for four nights on a firestore 100 in Film mode 720P24fps with no issues whatsoever. The footage looks awesome and I have not seen a single dropout. The Firestore solution rocks. As usual I expect newbies who have no experience with the format or syncing up the Firestore with the proper settings as your main problem, not the “firestore solution.” The problem always is with lower cost access to professional tools, you also get people with little experience using them.

Unfortunately I had already installed 5.1.1 and the patch for 3.05 doesn’t work. It comes up with an error message that it can’t find the plug-ins when it runs. I’m sure that is because it is looking for FCP 5.1 and not 5.1.1. The patch for 4.01 seems to have worked with the “Caps Lock” thingy. Unfortunately the free trial is over, so I have to decide if I want to fork over another $250.00 for basically the same effects that are in 3.0!
