You can share the Resolve database over a Resolve Database Server between two Resolve Macs, or combo of Resolve Linux and Mac.

The Resolve Database Server is Linux based and the installer is only available as part of the Resolve Linux installer DVD.

Hi Toby,

Resolve v8 will support Composite Mode so you’ll be able to easily key graphics or animated graphics using one of the Composite Mode like Add or Overlay. Or you can bring in a separate key matte to composite in the multi-track timeline in v8.

The Composite Mode set in FCP will be brought over via XML but it’ll only work for QT clips and not text generated from FCP so you’ll need to render them out as a QT clip first.

This is a huge leap forward as we’ve never been able to do this type of things in Resolve until v8.

Hi Sasha,

With Resolve v8 which has much better editorial tools that any version of Resolve ever had, would that change things ?

And may I know what you mean by the multiversion feature that is in Scratch that you wished is in Resolve ?

Actually the Scratch version is US$17K, which I think is still pretty steep in my opinion but of course consider how much it was before, much like Resolve itself.

As Sasha mentioned, in v8 this will be alot easier as you’ll be able to stack your different VFX shots in the multi-track timeline, or you can easily replace the clip with a new one. The editorial tools in v8 are much better.

I did a quick test before and if your VFX shots preserves the same name and timecode and when they are imported into the mediapool, Resolve will flag the clip in the timeline in the Conform Page as a conflict with a C at the top right corner of the shot, which means conflict.

When you click on the C, it will pop up a window and ask you to choose which is the clip you want to use, which in your case would be the new VFX shot. Once you have selected the clip you want, it will change from C to R, which means resolved.

Subsequently when you import another new VFX shot, with the same name and timecode, the C character will show up again and you then choose the clip you want.

Someone recently posted that his Resolve become problematic after upgrading to 4.0.

Best to stick to the current 3.2.17 version for now.

This has nothing to do with Blackmagic Design but the way Apple designed the Mac Pro with limited PCIe slots. Unfortunately there isn’t much we can do but go external PCIe chassis or some people have found a way to extend a HDMI cable from the Decklink card internally out of the Mac through the 2nd DVD drive bay. Not elegant but works when desperate times calls for desperate measures, that’s the only option.

And to accomodate REDRocket in the Mac Pro, you’ll have to use internal RAID0 with 3 or 4 SATA drives. I believe some have done this before so it does work.

Is your timeline in FCP single or multiple video track ?

Could you have selected the wrong video track when you exported the EDL in FCP ?

If the EDL is empty, there’s nothing Resolve can do.

Stick to the version that comes with the Resolve software.

Try installing your Decklink card in slot 4 and see if it makes any difference.

Or swap the slots between the GT120 and GTX285 just for testing purpose.
