Hey, in case anyone else is reading this, I just solved the issue by updating software on the app store. There’s a MacOS Supplemental Update that resolves as an issue with 32-bit apps launching. Voila. All good now.

I’m having the same problem. I haven’t done anything different. Still running Mac OS 10.11.6 (El Capitan) and trying to open Compressor 4.3.2. What happened??

Hi. I’m going to revisit my old thread rather than start a new one.

I created subtitles in FCP 6.0.6 using the Outline Text generator. Some clips are 1 line of text, others are 2 lines. For the single lines, I added a return so everything is bottom justified. But how do I now create a .srt file?? Do I need to redo everything using an app like SubBits? I just watched the FinalSRT demos on YouTube and am wondering if there might be something that can convert an XML from FCP to create an .srt file…? Didn’t seem like this is what SubBits does.

My doc is 105 minutes with a lot of subtitles. But to complicate matters, I also have character names, dates, locations, misc. text, and blue narrative text. I’ve created all of these in Apple Motion because when I started the project, you could roundtrip and it was quite easy. But now that roundtripping is gone, I’ve exported the files as ProRes 422 and imported them into the timeline. How on earth am I going to create .srt files out of these?

Is it as simple as putting subtitles on one layer in the timeline, character/location names on another layer, etc. Then creating a different .srt file for each layer, such that I can vary the style of text.

It’s all very confusing and I need to streamline this as we’ve just signed with a distributor. Thanks for the help 🙂

  • You still have this issue? It sounds like the clip is ‘Labelled” red. Do a Shift-F on the clip to find it in your Project Bin. Is it red there? If so, could you have labeled it along the way, and just forgotten? Control Click on the clip/ Label – choose None.

If not this, I don’t know.

  • No one else has run into this?

  • Cinema Tools, I’ve never even opened that. And of course, now I can’t because I’m on El Capitan I presume! Just crashes. Thanks anyway.

  • Thanks for replying but creating an mp4 as a go-between only defeats the purpose.

So you’re rendering, exporting, then bringing it back into the timeline? I don’t get it. What are your export settings? Does the file look like this if you open it in QT? Do you get the same results if you export the file without the colour correction filter?

I use FCP 6 with El Capitan. Never seen this.

This is quite a tutorial! Not sure I understand it all yet but I’ll give it a try.
