July 24, 2007 at 5:15 pm in reply to: The color red, even in uncompressed 10-bit FCP.this is absolutley a problem- we did an entire series of political ads- all had red text and the only workaround was to render using the RGB AJA codec and lift the black levels.
We believe it is a problem with the apple uncompressed codec- I discussed this with an apple rep @ NAB and after much discussion, apple did admit a problem… but it was supposed to be fixed in FCP2.
If it has not been fixed- BAD on apple and bad on us for not pushing the issue.
this is absolutley a problem with quicktime and it would be great if AJA would support us and take it up with thier contacts at Apple. So far, nobody has really resolved it.

March 29, 2007 at 2:31 pm in reply to: Kona output banding / hatching in illegal whites & colourswe may be the first to try. The same political group is coming back for a new spot (round 2) next week. They just finished shooting this morning. I’ll let you all know what happens.

March 27, 2007 at 9:27 pm in reply to: Kona output banding / hatching in illegal whites & coloursThis has been an ongoing problem for us as well. We did a series of political spots a few months back in 10 BPC 29.97 SD and and any red typography created in FCP and AE (even if it was NTSC legal) was terribly aliased on the edges- all of our settings were correct in FCP/AE (prefs update)but something was happening in the FCP timeline with the footage.
I wish AJA and apple could find and resolve the issue- our only recourse was to render everything in the RGB codec and it seemed to fix most of the issue- however that mean’t getting the entire spot in After Effects for a render… or our footage would shift colors/levels! Arrgghh!

October 14, 2006 at 6:45 pm in reply to: *NEW* AJA KONA v3.2 software available nowhas anyone else had problems wih the downloaded AJA installers? since V3 I have to request AJA to post them directly to my FTP server because the uncompressed installer errors out when try to install.
I’ve even downloaded the file(s) on 3 different Macs and all the installers are corrupt?

October 13, 2006 at 4:32 pm in reply to: FCP and Kona not outputting TRUE 10BPC?yes, trillions in AE( using the modified prefs file). however, even when displaying a still graphic(trillions PSD) it still is a problem unless using the RGB (kona) and setting the timeline to RGB rendering.

October 13, 2006 at 2:40 pm in reply to: FCP and Kona not outputting TRUE 10BPC?Ok, I gave it a shot, but even with RT extreme off, the 10Bit uncompressed apple codec is causing major stairstepping. Only by changing the sequence setting to AJA RGB 10 bit and setting the video processing to RGB does the quality improve. strangeness!

SOLVED: Rudy at AJA tech support was great this morning. Basically there was a problem on my system when decompressing the downloaded installer. The system defaults to using BOMarchivehelper- we forced it to use stuffit expander and the installer worked like a charm.
My system back up and running- now I can layoff my project today. YAY!

If I could, i would use the most recent uninstaller… however the installer never gets far enough to install the uninstaller. it basically installs the FCP components ands the control app along with the folder for the utilities (with no utilities inside).
