Im not 100% but I think you are correct about not being able to export those file types. Mac has a great video converter called “Handbrake” Its free and does a great job converting files.

Ok, I see the item properties. My only selections are format, timing, logging and film. I dont see anything with Alpha.

Im assuming you meant right click on the png in FCP?

I am having this same problem. I have two external drives, both formatted to Mac OS Extended.

I do not have compressor, just FC. No matter what format I export to, I get the horrible horizontal lines.

Thanks all for the help. I solved my problem.

I simply dubbed the HDV footage to a DV camera using RCA cables. I know Im going to have a loss of quality, but I didnt have access to a JVC camera or deck. My client said next time he has a project he is just going to have me shoot it ; )

When I play the tape in the Sony HVR FX1, the viewscreen tells me that it is HDV720p. FCP recognizes and can control the deck, but just can not capture.

This is frustrating me to no end! Is there a way around this? Possibly dubbing to DV?

The down convert is off, so that must be the case… Nuts! I have access to a Panasonic P2, does anyone know if that will do the trick?

I am not sure what it was shot on. I received the tapes from a client to edit. As I stated before, the camera is playing the footage, but FC is not capturing it.

I changed the settings to the ones specified on that page, and then got this message : “Capture was aborted due to lack of incoming data from device. Check your connections and that the deck is playing.”

FC was controlling the camera, video was playing but nothing was captured.

I should have been clearer with my situation.

When I use the DV start/stop detect to separate a captured tape into individual clips, and then drag them to the timeline, they are not in order.
