So Ive got a title, and a background for the title that is going to be on my video. Sort of like on the news, where they display the reporters name, etc. I want the background for my title to dissolve/fade off into the video so its not a hard edge. I know how to do it without a problem in Premiere, but havent a clue in FCP. I have a .png file that Ive made into what I want, but when I import, instead of transparent, its white.

    Am I making sense here?

Right click on the png and open up item properties. Under Alpha, flip it to Straight (or Black, White, whatever looks best). Things with Alpha’s often don’t import with the transparency recognized. Just another thing we love about FCP. After you flip it, bring it to the timeline and you should see the transparency.

Ok, I see the item properties. My only selections are format, timing, logging and film. I dont see anything with Alpha.

Im assuming you meant right click on the png in FCP?

It’s in “Format”. In the left hand column, look for Alpha. You may have to scroll down a bit to see it. When you do, change the interpretation by right clicking on None/Ignore and choose Straight, Black or White.
