I think we are chasing our tails here. Im talking about the signal itself internal to the file. I.e broadcast specs. If i give say a tv station a file that may have a few issues I missed as i was grading they will kick it back. Is it always good before the final render to apply a legalizer filter in your NLE if the editor is the last one to touch it? and if you are finishing in Davinci what do you guys tend to do to maintain a double check for legality in the file itself?

Im sorry.. You are referring to monitoring.. My bad.. I was referring to file out in my case a quicktime render out of resolve. Just to clarify.

So what you are saying is that it always renders out at full scaling. Once the editor gets it back they may want to add a legalizing filter to catch anything we missed? Obviously we grade and use our scopes then do soft clipping when needed. But is that the workflow you guys tend to use? Let the editor if he is finishing run a filter as the final catch all?

How are you normally set up? Do you have it set to full non scaled for display then set it to scale on render?

How common is using scene detect with handles. Just get one long movie to work with per reel?
For the younger editors I am tempted to go this way with them..

  • Yes I know what you mean. I have been trying to ween myself off of the tablet pen/mouse using the Tangent panel only for node functions and windows etc. Taking a bit to get used to but its coming along.

Yes! I would agree. select window and then move the right most trackerball. would rock!
So it isn’t my imagination that those bluring / soft functions are NOT on the wave?

  • I agree with all that you are saying. That it is a look judgement call. Im referring to after that stage when you are going to finally master out. What do you do for the legal values? Do you use the settings in the clip to legal values in resolve? Do you bring it back into final cut and pop on a legalize filter? or do like I was trying to do crank up the soft clip sliders till it reads under 960?
