Do u have an external FW drive hooked up @ the same time?
This can cause issues.
Also, shut down comp. Plug in Cam and firewire. Boot up machine, launch FCP. Does it see it now?
Select easy setup for your format.

It may only trim in 12 frame chunks but you can copy the video start time code numbers in the inspector and paste them on your audio track starting time code so ur in sync.

Right, avoid wmv when making a dvd – go straight to mpeg2
In your dvd program u flag your clip to display 4X3 or widescreen or pan and scan. This is where you’ll probably need to make an adjustment.
If you play SD 4X3 video on a HD widescreen TV something has to alter.

Ya, that’s a bit nuts. Go with 1 drive as a boot-up drive. Preferably an internal.

Why not nest the comp ur editing in – when u need to make a preview copy 4 client – and then tc filter that? This will reference back to ur edit.

Did u rip the DVD @ 720 by 480 or 640 by 480?
Is ur timeline square pix? or 720 by 486?

Rendering a filter (red bar on top) on a 2 hour timeline is going to take some time no matter what.

Ya, you can key out any color in the background with good lighting. It depends on what you want to see in the background.

Canon Vixia HG might be fine. I’m sure in great lighting – the image looks decent.

FYI, the Ipod and the hand holding it are a still. It is not really being hand held live per se.

Run test if you can.

You’ll want to look for a 3 chip camera 3 CCD
IN standard def you can find many 1/3 CCD that will look great for what u want to do. Ebay.
Also, Any HDV camera will work.

Lowel makes a basic lighting kit. Get a soft box for one of your lights.
