We’ll often shoot 1080 and edit in a 720 sequence. Then you have the option to punch in, re-frame, etc. And it works really well for SD/WEB/720p delivery.

I would setup a second cam, even a cheap palm-corder, aimed at the screen for reference only and then insert the PPT files in the edit.

It sounds like the speaker is sitting facing the camera in the studio and the laptop is facing the speaker, the BACK of the laptop is facing the camera.

Drop a clip on the “make new sequence to match” icon in the lower right of the browser, let Pr match it up for you.

Alt. dropping a clip into a blank sequence, Pr will prompt you to match if they don’t.

You’ll want to use firewire to capture HDV from tape playing in the camera.
Choose the HDV capture settings like pic here:

Make sure your capture location is a fast hard drive for media. Not your OS drive.

Ok, first off; that OS and that computer will yield slow results with Pr in my experience, esp. the low ram.

But the bigger issue is the external USB hard drive, you can’t edit video off USB.
