    Hello,

I have downloaded the trial of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 to complete a training book; however, when I want to play a clip by pressing spacebar or the j, k, and l buttons, nothing happens. I got it to work momentarily but now it’s back to being stationary. Does anyone have any ideas as to why it isn’t working? What should I do so it works?

    Thanks,
    Victor Vazquez

Which window is active in PPro? The active window is the one with the yellow outline around it. You need to select the timeline (simple click anywhere inside the timeline will do it), then you should be able to j, k, l, and spacebar to your hearts content!

I am having this issue now. I can move the marker in the timeline, save and do other actions but I can’t get the monitor to change frames. No playback in either monitor or source monitor. I find that it happens when I switch to other applications like an internet browser or an audio program like VLC or FL Studio. It seems to be related to audio playback devices and/or Premiere Pro Layout files(.xml).

I haven’t figured out a permanent fix yet but if you shut down the program and go to documents/adobe/premiere and delete the whole folder it will start working again until the next time i try to use another program with audio playback at the same time as Premiere Pro. This folder is automatically recreated by premiere pro wthe next time you open it up.

I had to share my story in hopes someone finds a solution. email me @ illestmindset@gmail.com

I have the best results when I use Premiere only and close all other programs.

    What computer are you on?
What video files are you working with?
What hard drive is the media playing off of?

[Chris Tompkins]“What computer are you on?

I’m on a MacBookPro Version 10.6.8, 2 GHz Processor, 4 GB RAM memory.

The video files are type: P2 Movie, image size: 960 x 720, frame rate: 23.976. I’m also working with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop files.

The files are coming from an external hard drive connected by USB 2.0.

    Thanks,
    Victor

I changed the audio hardware default device to “Built-in Input/Built-in Output” and that did the trick. I also exited all other windows. Let’s see for how long it keeps working.

Ok, first off; that OS and that computer will yield slow results with Pr in my experience, esp. the low ram.

But the bigger issue is the external USB hard drive, you can’t edit video off USB.

    FireWire.
    SATA.
    ThunderBolt.

I am editing some old home movies at 480p. I took the off of a DVD so they are .VOB files running off of my C: drive from a documents folder.

I have an external HD but I believe its 5400 RPM as well.

    My system:
    3rd Gen. Core i7-3610QM @2.30GHz
    16.0 GB RAM
    Windows 7-64bit
    TOSHIBA MQ01ABD100 1TB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5″ Internal Notebook Hard Drive

I put the files onto my CPU harddrive and they play fine. I remember that I had a similar issue when I put files onto the same external harddrive when using FCP X. I am ordering an external harddrive that uses Firewire.

    Thanks a bunch,
    Victor

It went back to not working. For some reason the playback is very unstable.

Also, sometimes the playback is faster and plays in fast motion.
