    Changing the audio hardware setting seems to have the best effect.

    I use a Focusrite 8i6 external soundcard. What should my settings be?

    It looks like you’re right. I have 3 options. If I switch to Asio4all it plays fine out of my laptop speakers but I want to run my studio reference monitors. If I switch to the Premiere Pro sound driver it plays out the right channel of my monitors only. I would like to be able to run my Focusrite Driver with other apps simultaneously but that is when it freezes.

    Does it work with the focusrite setting? Yes, I notice I also have problems when I run other applications simultaneously.

    I’m not sure why it stops playback with other applications running. I may contact Adobe to see if they may be able to troubleshoot. If not ill have to edit without other applications open. As long as it at least plays somehow.

    Does anyone know if the AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256 MB graphics card will cause problems with playback? I’m thinking I need to upgrade my graphics card.

    a few things i’ve done have caused this, but not sure which was the seminal moment;

    deleted all empty tracks -> no playback on timeline.
    fearing imminent crash, saved, then saved again with new filename and exited. mistake.
    on that occasion was forced to open a recent autosave, but still lost time redoing work

    all in the same few mins;
    grouped and disabled several audio clips on one track
    imported an mp3 that had been extracted from avi to mono .wav, then converted into stereo mp3
    placed the mp3 onto an empty track
    -> no playback
    retraced steps using ctrl+z til playback worked again.

    at the time i was doing the above, i was working my way down through multiple tracks, isolating each as i went by way of the mixingn panel. wondering whether the problem might have had somethign to do with isolating one or more tracks in the mixer and then un-isolating them there. if so i have not been able to reproduce the effect.

    Yes it’s possible. High capacity VGA cards help.
    Cheers!
