Really there are only 3 options with a helicopter shoot.

Gyro Nose mount camera – the best. This feeds the signal into the copter to a recorder of your selection.

A inside gyro mounted cam shooting out the side door.

Hand held. Will have a shake to it.

Make sure your stills are RGB in color space and not CMYK

Choose the file “Share” option in FCP and FCP will just do it all auto for you.
When the files are done, drag them onto toast.
Select NEVER for the recompress.

OR

Export your sequence “current settings” and drag that file onto toast.

Are you just trying to render items in the sequence?

Select “CMD A” to select ALL in the sequence and hit “CMD R” for render.

Go to sequence settings first and choose the codec prores.

If you have the budget, get an on-cam LED light.

Also, a Wide Angle Lens would be most handy.
You can get adapters but if their not the more costly zoom thru lens adapters their more a pain then anything else.

The SMPTE and Betacam differences are in the color space when capturing and or laying out to tape. I keep our on SMPTE except when using Beta SP.
What about a NDF and a DF discrepency?
Have you trashed prefs?
Re-booted?

OK, First of all,

When you drop a clip into a new blank sequence, did FCP prompt you to let FCP change the sequence setting to best match your footage? If YES, then Good.

Now, What hard drive do you files live on?
Do you have a couple sata drives stripped inside the MacPro Tower?
Ext. FireWire drive?

You can’t (well you shouldn’t) have media on the OS boot drive.
You can’t edit off an ext. USB drive.

Your sequence settings must match your clip settings.
