I am trying to create a Blu Ray version of a 93 minute film.

I have encoded from FCP 6 on a Powermac through compressor using this guide:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3IDhivbu8k

I followed the steps (except menu creation as i want direct play) but though I set re-encode to never on toast it still re-encodes the Mpeg2.

All I need is the create a Blu Ray auto play from an M2V and Dolby Digital file.

    Is there an easier way?

Choose the file “Share” option in FCP and FCP will just do it all auto for you.
When the files are done, drag them onto toast.
    Select NEVER for the recompress.

    OR

Export your sequence “current settings” and drag that file onto toast.

    Thanks Chris,

Unfortunately I only have FCP 6 which doesn’t have the share option but I am able to encode an M2V through compressor for Blu Ray.

It’s when I get to Toast that, even though I set it to NEVER on encoding, it still re-encodes the clip.

Can I make a FCP movie at current settings and drag it into toast?

Yes. Read the manual for Toast.

Bruce Nazarian has a great book called “Fast Path to Blu Ray” It’s a very inexpensive and very informative.

I create a h.264 for Blu Ray then drop that file into Toast.

    David,

You have to make sure that all your settings in Toast match those of your video, otherwise, Toast will want to re-encode.

I have tested the h.264- exported from FCP. Made a 25 minute clip and re-encoded to Mpeg2 in Toast.

The file is a little large than DVD but not as much as I thought.

The entire 93 minutes is around 9-10 GB. Does this sound right?

Hard to tell on playback if there is much different in quality from the DVD. It is screenin on a cinema screen in 2 weeks so have to get a move on…

Will try re-encoding Mpeg2 through compressor and set the same settings on Toast.

Have set toast to exact setting of the M2V but it still re-encodes.

Best results seem to be encoding a H264 through Final Cut (skipping compressor) then re-encode through Toast to Mpeg2.
