You don’t mention the format/codec details of the exported clip.

    Try this:

Edit the prores like you are.
Export finished edited video using “Current Settings”

Take that exported video clip master and drop it into Compressor or “Your compression software here”

Create the deliverable. Web or DVD

Look @ Vimeo or Youtube specs for uploading a HD video. Then use those settings for your compression to make a webclip.

If your pans are playing back fine in FCP, you have nothing to worry about. Also, play back a large HD file off the OS drive could have stuttered playback issues.

The Kona II card will Down convert for you on the fly.
Lay it out to tape via SDI and bring back in.

    OR

    Use Compressor.

June 7, 2011 at 4:12 pm in reply to: how to make a sequence into seperate clips

Slice the long clip in the sequence.

DRAG the clip from the sequence into the browser – new clip.

Drop NEW clip into NEW sequence.

What is the format and codec of the clip? (Look in browser)

When you drop it in a sequence, do the settings match?

What is your destination? Web? DVD?

June 7, 2011 at 12:37 pm in reply to: Convert WMV files to QT for editing in FCP 7

First off, RAW??? I don’t think so. What camera shoots .WMV files?

This is a Heavily Compressed Delivery codec. Not acquisition and not editing.

    At any rate:

Plug-in for Quicktime Pro (Flip4Mac) will let you open the files in QT7 and export to another format.

    Mpeg StreamClip

    Episode

    Squeeze

    TO Make the DVD:

Export your finished video using Just Quicktime “Current Settings”
Make self Contained if you want a Digital Master for archiving on Hard Drives forever.

Drop that outputted file into “compressor” to make your DVD files.

Shooting in 24p can cause stuttering on pans.

If you shot PAL – it should have been 25fps.

You converted your HD Widescreen footage to 4×3 SD files. Bad.

    Start over.

    Convert to:

    1920×1080 Square pixels
    24fps
    Prores 422

Drop a clip into a new emtee sequence and let FCP change the settings to match for you – auto.
    Edit.

  • Just drop your 30p clip into the sequence where you are editing the 24p.
    It won’t be so bad.
