Let’s say you spent 60 hours on a long complex edit.
You loose the media/hard drive.

With reel #’s and Time-code, FCP will REBUILD THE ENTIRE SEQUENCE down the the frame for you.

Try going to the original audio file.
Duplicate it.
Rename it.
Import it into the proj.
Delete the weird file in the sequence and drop in the newly named one.

You didn’t mention the length or if it was in HD or not…

But try:

2500 for the Data rate.
Keyframe every 30
FrameRate matching your sequence.
Codec .h264
Quicktime container .mov
1280×720 (if original was HD)

Well try rendering it out of AE first.
Take file into AME to create the mpeg file.
Import into Encore.

I was seeing the same thing. Check the HDMI settings in the TV menu.
I forget what it was called but that was what the issue was for me.

Make sure the signal is PASSING thru the camera.

Shut down the mac.

Plug FW into cam and Computer.
Bootup.
Launch FCP.
Go into easy setup DV NTSC
Change control (FW) to non-control/no control.
Go push play on VHS.
go into capture now.

OR

Dub all VHS to DV tape first.

Drag them onto your Hard Drive.
Unmount card.
Import in FCP.

Are they .dv files or .mov files?
