After much messing about, managed to solve by resetting the normal tab to default settings in the material settings ☺

    Thanks again.

    Hi Steve,

Thank you so much for that detailed insight, explanations are great!
I’ve managed to make Method 2 work, the ‘matte object’ selection was the bit I missed. Will definitely implement the depth matte suggestion also.

    Thanks again,
    Christian.

Hi Steve, thanks for your reply.

Yep the statue is a 3D object in the C4D scene and the explosion collides/interacts with that object. The black silhouette you’re seeing is the actual statue .OBJ in C4D with the rest of the scene muted/deleted.

Yep that’s correct, Ideally I’d love to render the explosion with the statue cut out so it could be dropped into AE ready. Have tried using the compositing tag on the statue so it’s not seen by the camera, but doesn’t seem to work.

Just trying your depth pass method now, would I need to render out the explosion and statue as different passes?

Thanks again for your help Steve,
    Cheers
    Christian.

  • Hey mate, thanks for the reply, I’ve followed those docs and a few tutorials but to no success, makes me think there’s and incompatibility somewhere, unless I’m missing something obvious.

    Thanks again.

I’ve just swapped out the existing road geometry to a ‘Plane’ instead of a flattened cube and it seems to be working at the moment (touch wood)

    Will keep you updated.
    Thankyou so much for helping!

Attached a link below to the project with just the offending objects/materials + cameras + Arnold sky + Floor.

Thanks so much for the help!

Manage to isolate the issue to the camera.

When I render with a camera the flicker is there, when I just use the perspective view it’s not present.

    any thoughts on a resolution?

    Thanks again for you help

Hey man thanks for your help.
Unfortunately it still flickers with just the road isolated.

I’ve been through the diagnostics menu in the Arnold render settings and ‘Ignore Shaders’ eliminates flicker, but not sure what that tells me ha!

    Any other suggestions to try?

    Thanks again

I thought this might be the case, but raised the areas away from any other geometry & the problem remained 🙁
