Real 3D space happens in the “Square” world. The non square world is for the video renders. So in AE bring in your rendered video from Maya and put them into the “Cube test” comp. They are non square (.9) so they need to live in there. BUT! Everything you add in AE needs to live in the Square comp.
So say you have a text layer that says “Front” and a text layer that says “Back”. And as you may guess, front needs to be in front of the cube and back needs to be behind the cube.
You would actually have to duplicate the square comp. One of the square comps goes on top of the Maya cube renders (in the non-sqaure comp). and the other goes below it in the layer stack. In the top square comp, go inside it and add your “Front” text pickwhipped to the null that lives on the front corner. So the front text has the same position.
Then do the same for the square comp below the cube and pickwhip it to the null from the back part of the cube.
So your layer stack will be:
1. Maya cube test Sqaure comp (add front AE layers inside here)
2. Cube test render video from Maya
3. Maya cube test Sqaure comp (add Behind AE layers inside here)Chris Smith

If I may be a touch more specific:
AS said, duplicate your layer. On the top layer add a gaussian blur. Let’s say to something like 4 to 6. Then simply drop the opacity to something like 40%. This will give you a standard “Pro mist” look. This won’t effect your overall levels at all.
However if you want to get funky with the levels, try changing the transfer mode of the top (blurred layer):
Screen: Brighter look, but a bit “Sexier” as Chris and Trish Meyer would say.
Add: With this, I’d also add a tint to the top layer like a golden hue. Then you get a fiery burnt out look.
Overlay: This can increase your overall contrast. Get the right balance of blur and opacity and it gives you a bit of a music video look.

I’m just learning this as well. Some codecs just aren’t in the PC quicktime suite it seems. I use “animation” codec to go between PC and Mac. They both like it.

Even 3D stroke has made it into the ABC logo.
“3d stroke”

Yeah, it’s from RGB to YUV conversion. AE is RGB. NLE’s are YUV. There can be a handful of ways to fix this. Search the archives on RGB to YUV and back.

If you look closly at that demo it appears it is nothing more than a browser with presets for the particle systems already avalable in AE (CC Particle World, Patricle Playground, etc).
Someone else have a look and see what you think. I didn’t see a new particle ‘system’ at all.

This was asked in the last month or so. Check the archives for more answers.

drag your video clips into the project and pickwhip the position of the null to the position of the file so it takes it’s place in 3D space.
