My guess is that you are at the threshold to the limit of your APC. When we have the digideck on, it won’t trigger the apc, but sometimes when it kicks in the tape transport it will trigger the APC tone for a short blip.
So with the extra draw from the computing power needed and the heat displaced, then the extra “fanage” needed probably tips the draw. I’d think about a bigger APC, or go through 2 of them.

So this 3DKiwi is not affiliated with the 3D Kiwi from C4Dcafe?
At any rate, there are awesome tutorials at http://www.c4dcafe.com hosted also by a guy named Nigel(3DKiwi).

I’m sure you guys noticed that the announced C4D 9.6 will now render a motion vector pass.

It is all clear to me now. I got Jenna from the 3D World promo. Since then I thought I couldn’t live w/o Jenna. Big kudos to Maxon for making this module. Outside of the core app, This and maybe TP will be my favs me thinks.

I’d say the thread is very on topic. AE cow to me seems to be 1/2 motion graphics and 1/2 AE specific. C4D is a very common motion graphics tool.
Harry,
I used Maya for 4 years. I downloaded the demo of C4D last year and was hooked whithin 10 minutes. I didn’t leave the manual for a week. Now I live by the program ESPECIALLY for mograph. But even if I did regular 3D I would still use C4D. I can do the same things I did in Maya in a fraction of the time with a far better internal renderer. You should check it out. Not to mention it’s practically seamless integration with AE.

[Adam Trachtenberg] “I think it was exactly the opposite of that. :)”
Meaning, because they went away, Mograph came out? If so, that was an incredibly quick developement time. Makes me wonder if the Jenna folks worked on it at all, if not, it had to be inspired from it.

It should work w/o Mocca at all. Mocca makes bone setup easier with the bone tool, but you should be able to use the regular bones, vertex maps and Cactus Dan tools.
I own Mocca and All I use is Cactus Dan’s stuff instead. I do use the Mocca Bone tool to place the bones, but it isn’t necessary.
His Morph tools to me smoke the posemixer way of doing facial morphs in C4D. I don’t know jack about rigging, but the CD tools have macros that are practically automatic in setting up rigs.

funny thing is it seems to have the functions of Storm tracer, Jenna, and Response all built in. Makes me wonder if that’s why Jenna, CPT, and Response suddenly went away.
I for one am besides myself thrilled with this module. I think it was completely brilliant on Maxon’s part to realize their main demo and do a module for them. I’m getting it the second it drops.
Not to mention it will be invaluable for non-mograph stuff as well (like populating trees along a terrain or creating crowds or traffic). Yeah, I could do that before with particles. but I bet this is far more intuitive to use.

First of all I also love Cactus Dan’s IK/Constraint/Morph tools. They are worth every cent many times over. The constraints alone add what C4D should have built in in the first place.
I’ve never used C4D w/o Mocca installed so I don’t know what is part of it, but I believe you can still use bones with vertex maps without it. I think only Claude-bonet is part of Mocca.
So put your bones in and grab points or polys and set vertex maps on them. Then add restriction tags to each bone with the respective vertex map so the bone is limited to that part of the mesh.
Then lastly, don’t bother with IK. Just animate using FK (Just rotating the bones directly)

Not for AE.
In C4D, I have all kinds of preset stuff. I have Xpresso/nulls that move in sin/cos with noise functions that you parent an object or cam to to get shaking or cyclical motion. It’s amazing how much movement in life is sin and noise.
For example I loaded a guy’s character rig into C4D and just assigned sin waves with some noise functions on some of the IK controls and made the character dance with incredibly lifelike motion! Looked like mocap almost.
But it’s usually so quick to create a null and select the parent pulldown, I find it just as easy as having a rig.
But in C4D, ppl have made all kinds of cool rigs. One is called “Steadycam” (yeah misspelled per the Steadicam brand) that does amazing cam motion with little effort. There are also rigs that simulate dollies and jibs.
