Whoops, I meant to say “minimum of 3 keys needed it seems” and not 2. Glad it worked.

This will do what you want. Show the Fcurve of the animation. select the keyframes that make up your animation that you want looped (minimum of 2 keys needed it seems). Then under the ‘curves’ menu in the FCurve pane, select cycle, then enter in the amount of times you want it to loop. It will loop these keyframes independently of the timeline as a whole. You can also select ‘cycle with offset’ to make the keyframes restart from a relative position rather than the absolute values in your keys. For example if you animated a ball that bounces once, ‘cycle’ will make it loop that one bounce starting from it’s position everytime. ‘cycle with offset’ will make it bounce at the position where it left off so it will “bounce down the street”.

The Mac or Windows for AE question has been asked many times so definitely do a search of the archives.

My response is: If you want to use Apple apps like FCP, DVD studio pro, Motion, Shake, then get a Mac. If you want cheap and mod abilty get a PC. If you plan on doing a lot of 3D i would stick with PC. If you are picky about the elegance of your OS then get a Mac.

If you are a fan of the video games like myself then get a PC.

I have both. That way there isn’t an issue. You’ll natuarally find things you prefer doing on each machine. I find that whenever doing such things like motion graphics, PS, AI, and general use of the OS I use the G5. For games and 3D I generally use the PC. But I set it up to be more of a workstation so I’m not dealing too much with the OS. I personally haven’t done a speed test between the 2 using the exact same app. I think Steve Roberts uses AE frequently on both machines. I think he said there isn’t much of a speed diff.

But My PC which is about the same speed with a much better vid card was half the cost of my G5.

Select the keyframes and select the ‘cycle’ option. Or ‘cycle with offset’ should that work better for you.

Have one layer be the normal movie with the dudes you want to isolate. Have a second layer that is the exact same shot except make your characters 100% green.

Drop a color key onto the second layer and pick the green of the dudes on screen. Set the keyer till they disappear. Now you have isolated them albeit with the opposite alpha than what you need. Not a big deal.

Put this second layer (the one with the green dudes and the color key) on top of the normal clip layer. Under the track matte setting, on the bottom (normal) layer, select ‘alpha inverted’. Then it should isolate your guys by using the key you did on the layer above it.

You may want to keyframe some garbage roto around the guys though in case the key picked up other garbage that is away from your subject.

For details on track mattes, alpha channels, etc.. check your help files or manual obviously.

Yeah, it has been talked about a few times if you want to do a search. If it’s the one I’m thinking about, there should be a short article on how he did it on the Trapcode site.

    If I remember correctly:

On set they used LED keylights in their hands to create illuminated tracking points. They tracked these and apllied this data to the emitter in Particular (although for this you can use any of the AE built in particles). Then he set the the dynamics so the particles drift to match the camera movement. Then added glow/colored blur effects on the particles.

Assuming the shot is EXACTLY the same, pixel for pixel with the other shot, the only difference being the figures, then you can use the difference key. However , difference keys usually look rough.

If you can replace the figures with 100% of a flat color, then by all means, key that and invert the matte to isolate the figures.

Need more info then. You obviously can’t key it. Are you suggesting doing a difference matte?

Do you have access to the game engine? So you can kill the surrounding and replace it with a keyable BG.

if you mean you just want the characers left and it is a still photo that you are using , it would be easiest and cleacnest to just draw a mask around them.
