If you can grab the colors of the man, then use
effects>Stylize>Leave color
If you can’t grab the colors, then you need to duplicate the layer, rotoscope the man and add a hue/sat and pull all the saturation out.

My only thought is to use the reflection channel instead of specularity and make the tube light visible so it is actually reflecting the tube itself.

If you turn on Speed Channel and watch any of the racing shows they always take racing clips and ‘spice’ them up for intros and stories and such. I recommend watching Formula One or Rally.

1. If you have the explosion on one layer, import the matte on a second layer. Put the second layer right above the explosion. Then on the explosion layer, set it’s track matte to luma matte. That way it will use the luminance from the layer above it (your explosion matte) as it’s own matte channel so it’ll cut out the way it is intended.
2. Knoll Unmult is here:

Rich, I would repeat your experiment but see if it was the bit depth change or a possible YUV-RGB-YUV conversion that changed your color values. Color space conversion will definitely shift things around, but I question if bit depth would.

But they work in all other programs, yes? C4D on a Mac is odd because they make so many operations stick to the PC key setup (using cntrl key a lot instead of cmd). Did you check your hotkey setup for the play stop and start?

For future ref, if you want can also use codecs by manufacturers that make the codecs for both platforms, like downloading the Blackmagic codec for example.

Well, if nothing else, the matte has already been done for you. We assume that the edges of the matte were optimum since they come with a pro library. Keying on black still will grab black parts of the explosion and not probably not give you as clean of edges since you are basically keying on a luminance value because black has no color. Color keys which separate themselves by saturation, hue, and luminance have more defined edges than luminance keys.
But with stuff shot on black, you can use the free plug-in ‘unmult’.

For 10 bit pipeline, use the 16 bit project. It will just “downconvert” on render out back to 10-bit. Yes 8 bit will kill your bitdepth. However, make sure you have at least 10 bit all the way through your process. One bit of 8 bit will downgrade the whole lot.
Although I’ve seen arguments that Digibeta is 8 bit running through a 10 bit pipe. Don’t know.

Search the archives of the last few months for ‘starglow’ and I posted a detailed recipe for a simple starglow effect without buying the full thing.
