Shane, EXCELLENT point I have been waiting to hear, this makes perfect sense. Even Sony’s current high-end color correction monitors are now flat screens, as are nearly all TVs people are buying these days.

Take a look at the HDMI box from Convergent Design. I believe it gives you control via FW, but I don’t know if you can capture to ProRes even with your rig, but I could be wrong.

There are two papers here on the Cow about ProRes by Tim Wilson, you should go to the library, print them out and read them. Very, very important articles. Then read them again.

ProRes even at half res is unbelievable.

The only way to truly calibrate that monitor is with a Matrox MXO connected via DVI. A blue gel can work, but it’s tough.

I this situation, a great helper is BTV Pro, a little capture app with a great time-lapse feature. Totally adjustable, a little math will tell you how your settings will affect speed and duration. Then you just use it to capture in real time, to any format BTW, and just let it rip. REally, really handy.

I’m not a moderator here, but I know they don’t like duplicate threads. But, having the same problem, to answer your question, not being able to repair permissions is causing all kinds of bugs on my system, and in the other thread I believe I said Apple told me to change it with a clean install. So I am right now.

The machine at work that won’t repair permissions says GUID partition.
