Send the composit video out or S video to a TV or monitor, you should see your menu there. Set the EE to on, or the DV to in/out or both, don’t know your deck. Then connect to computer BEFORE you launch FCP.

You also should have at least 10% overhead of space left on your media drives. Also, someties and audio mixdown can fix this.

To go back to that deck you must match your sequence settings to PALDV. FireWire PAL must show up in your video display control list when the deck is connected.

Print to tape can be problematic, have you tried playing back through the timeline?

I believe most of the higher end SLRs can be controlled by third party trigger devices.

There is a great article/tutorial on this process on the Revostock archives. They are very helpful, I’m sure someone there can lead you to it.

Film Effects have a host of color correction tools to play with. When I use them I rarely use any other color correction. But first off, editing in HDV is a no-no. You should at the very least change your compressor and render.

There are a couple other solutions for this. The plugins PanZoomPro and DH Box.

With Michael’s method, I do this too, but after the transitions are in place, just drag the keyframes in the timeline to the beginning and/or end of the transitions. You can also double click the clip into the Viewer and drag them there.

Also, if you use travel mattes, you can put the keyframes on the clips and the transitions on the mattes and nothing will move.

Mostly though, if it’s a long show, I will do these in Fotomagico.

1. FCP’s keyframes are woeful at best. You can move them in the timeline if the keyframe option is selected in the user options timeline tab, but it is sometimes best to double click the clip and move them in the motion tab. You cannot move one past another like you can in AE.

2. That’s a puzzle. Try exporting a frame using QuickTime with conversion. Nesting sucks too.

3. This one will work in the distort tab. Sometimes I use image and wireframe shift/drag the corner of the clip in the canvas to get it close, then go into the distort tab and make it numerically correct.
