    Andrew,

Matte’s idea will work, but to answer your question, IMO the best program to do this inside FCP is Silhouette FX Roto.

Wow, now THAT’s obscure. I thought it might have been from the 60s American show “Hazel,” a ditzy show about a nosey maid, who always called her boss “Mr. B” as I recall.

    Bryce,

    Nice link, thanks!

OT: Where does the quote in your signature come from, a TV show? It sounds familiar.

    Andrew,

You also can nest your 16×9 sequence into a 4×3 sequence and it will automatically letterbox it. Read this:

  • Robin,

Yesterday I finished my first major project using 5. (Woohoo!) I had a movie from AE in there with an alpha channel and it worked as always. Because my project was 8bit uncompressed I had to render the files, but they were very clean.

My render settings from AE were Animation, millions+ and I set the alpha channel to straight.
Check to see if yours are premultiplied, could be the problem.

No problems in the same project with transparency on about 25 PS layers either.

    BerGo,

He should be able to do all of that via the FireWire he already has.

    Jump,

Well, I don’t notice a loss, but that’s probably due to the fact that I am capturing to 8bit uncompressed. But even in the past when I’ve captured to DV, I never could discern the loss. It’s pretty minimal.

[bogiesan] “curtis usually writes for maximum compatibility and minimum Microsoft Explorer exclusivity”

Well SOB, it works in Explorer.

    Jump cut,

In addition to what Matte gave you, you can capture DVD footage from a regular player hooked up to a deck. Use the non-controlable device setting.

    Hey Mitch,

What’s supposed to happen when you highlight the text and hit Q? Does it bring up a response window with the italic quote in it? Or do you have to click on reply?
