To make 4×3 into widescreen you make an anamorphic project, and you have to blow up your footage I think it’s 133% and crop off the top and bottom. You lose resolution, but that’s the only way I know to do it.

We had a discussion on this last Summer. It seems that not every filter will let you paste keyframes. Some do, some don’t.

I believe you are right about the uncompressed project, however, if he does DV (and this is what I would do) exporting directly to Compressor is the way to go. This prevents the DV compression so graphics look great. It also creates automatic compression markers on every cut, so motion is flawless. Finally, control over encoding in Compressor is superior to letting DVDSP do it, and at least until v2 Compressor was faster.
True, this method does tie up FCP while the encoding is going on, but it’s worth it.
A workaround is to go with an uncompressed project like you said, render a movie, and use another app like Compression Master or Squeeze to handle the encoding (again, way more control over encoding than DVDSP) in which case you can be happily editing away in FCP.

So your screen is a widescreen set? It should have an option to center a 4×3 image with black bars on each side. Otherwise, you have to crop the top and bottom in F

I know about that, but my project is already built with 7 tracks, so my original question about exporting ins and outs from FCP in Compressor is still unanswered.

Funny, all 6 chapters of the video exported okay as QT’s, and I ended up encoding them in Squeeze, and the resulting DVD seems fine. I’m gonna try Compressor again on a different project and see what happens.

Time lapse aside, BTVPro is an all-around handy little app. Very versatile capture tool, lots of settings to work with.

There was a quick tip in the last LAFCPUG newsletter, which dealt with this and it said to turn off the background color in the project properties as well as exporting with alpha.
But I just tried that and I got no checkerboard. What am I missing?
