PhotoZoom Pro is a generator that works inside FCP’s interface, which is a big plus over the other tools mentioned here. But, of the stand-alone apps for this, I really like Fotomagico. I did a 4 minute video with it with about 70 pictures in less than an hour. Buttery smooth moves and very controlable.
But, inside FCP my favorite by far is PZP. It’s funtionality is similar to Fotomagico’s in a way. It’s about 5 times faster than the motion tab, plus it requires no keyframes so transitions go right on without hving to adjust keyframes. The length of the move is adjusted by the length of the clip. http://www.lyric.com

I used to use Premiere 5.1 and 6 and that feature not only told you if a clip was used, but how many times. It is probably the one thing I miss in FCP from Premiere. Afraid using the awful media manager is the only recourse.

I have three different drives on my system, an SCSI RAID, a Firewire RAID and a single Firewire drive, and no matter which one I’m using I get the lag you’re getting. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to FCP 5. BTW it only happens when the program sits for a period of time. I’ve just learned to live with it.

After you select your settings in Compressor, double click the mpeg setting, that will open it in the inspector. Go to the quality tab and change it from the default 2 pass VBR to one of the single pass settings. See if this helps.

Of the two problems you have the ausio is the more difficult to resolve. This is because audio tweaking is inherently an art into itself, combined with the fact that FCPs audio tools are difficult to use and not very good.
To remove noise or static is possible with Bias’ Soundsoap, or, if there’s a section of just the noise, you can sample that in Soundtrack Pro and get rid of it, there’s a demo of how to do that on the Soundtrack intro page on Apple’s site.
For the video the 3-Way color corrector is your best bet.

Amen to AJA’s support, the best. Try calling Decklink’s American support, all you ever get is a recorded message, with AJA you get a person, and they will usually walk you through to a solution.
If you were in Austraila, I’m sure it would be different.

I agree with all these comments, but if cash is not a problem, my feeling is the best PIP plugin is Lyric’s PanZoom Pro. It’s a generator into which you drop images in a well, extreme control, no keyframes, won’t screw up transitions. Blazingly fast, about 5 times faster than using the Motion tabs.
