Pan and Zoom plug-in for FCP?
Posted by David Rodney on November 24, 2005 at 1:06 amHi all,
I now have to animate photos on a regular basis.
I have tried the painfully slow and fiddly FCP motion tab but is a complete time waster.
Is there a decent plug-in that allows for smooth pans and zooms across photos in FCP? Similar to The Ken Burns Effect but perhaps a little more customisable?
Thanks
David

Bouncing Account needs new email address
November 24, 2005 at 1:47 amThis is a VERY Frequently Asked Question.
There is so much info stored on the COW that can be accessed 24/7 in SECONDS using “Search Posts”.
Here’s how I do it:
Click on the “Search Posts” at the left of the screen here on the COW.
Under the “Advanced Search” section:
1. Type in the name of the term(s) you want to search.
(In this case, just type “Pan Zoom”).2. You can leave the “forums to search” alone (it will automatically “stay” with the forum you are currently in).
3. OR > You can choose to add other forums to the search (be sure to click on the one you are currently in if you do this)
4. How far back… Choose “All Active Posts”
5. Search the Archives? “Yes”
Click: “Advanced Search” button and read the “wisdom of the COW”.

Here’s a link to the 2-pop forum where we just had a discussion
a few days ago. Photo to Movie isn’t a plug in, it’s a separate app
you make your moves in, then export the quicktime movie
and bring into FCP. It is very good and easy to use.
Costs only $49. Check out this link for more info:

PhotoZoom Pro is a generator that works inside FCP’s interface, which is a big plus over the other tools mentioned here. But, of the stand-alone apps for this, I really like Fotomagico. I did a 4 minute video with it with about 70 pictures in less than an hour. Buttery smooth moves and very controlable.
But, inside FCP my favorite by far is PZP. It’s funtionality is similar to Fotomagico’s in a way. It’s about 5 times faster than the motion tab, plus it requires no keyframes so transitions go right on without hving to adjust keyframes. The length of the move is adjusted by the length of the clip. http://www.lyric.com
Have a wonderful day.

I downloaded their demo, and I think I like it better than Photo to Movie
because it’s within FCP, which save some time.
I’ll have to test it on my office system with the uncompressed 10 bit
card, but it looks good.
This is why I love forums.
Too bad we didn’t have them in the 70s.
Nobody would have bought RCA. (TK76 etc.) 🙂dr

BTW, most people call this the “Ken Burns” effect, which ticks off a lot of other people, but if you were to search for “Ken Burns”, you’d find quite a few recent discussions similar to this one.
