I don’t know about the LA, but I had a Decklink hooked up to my 1800 for two years, and I was looping the “Y” cable through the Ref input and it was stable and reliable, but this wouldn’t work anymore when I went to a Kona LH. A blackburst generator was the perfect solution. I do edit to tape and it hits the mark perfectly every time. Get one.

If you’re on a dual proc Mac you should try Kinemac. Really easy to use.

In looking at that camera on-line, it appears to be true anamorphic, so you should be able to capture from it in DV NTSC anamorphic and get a true widescreen image.

Ah, my bad, forgot, I don’t use s-video much, although I do use it to my monitor from the DSR11 and it does look good. Whether as good as component the jury’s out for me, but then I have these 50-something eyes…LOL!
