drop frames on xserve?
As you can see from my profile, I seem to be running a somewhat souped-up system. Why do I still get drop frames upon playback? My project is 27.5MB and am working with about 60hrs of footage at DV-PAL compression with a maximum of 3 video track and 9 audio tracks. Some of my timelines extend to about 1hr and I usually have 3X1hr sequences open at a time. Then again, shouldn’t the system be able to handle it? Running the Blackmagic Disk Speed Tool, I noticed that my disk read/write speed tends to fluctuate on the X’serve, decreasing throughout the day. Any ideas?

If you upgraded to Quicktime 7.0.4 when it was first released this could easily be causing your problem. It did create this problem for me. If so, check the Apple site for the cure, which is a rollback to QT 7.0.1 and then an install of 7.0.3

Might also be that Dell Monitor. I’ve seen a KB article on Apple about Dells causing dropped frames recently. No URL, sorry.
