May 21, 2012 at 12:40 am in reply to: SD-HDMI minii converter dip switch question

    Hi Anhtu,

The DIP switches on the Mini Converter SDI to HDMI shouldn’t alter the video conversion, they’re really just used for audio, and the Processing switch currently does not do anything. The converter should always convert 23.98PsF to P. However I would suggest leaving the DIP switches in the default OFF position, and switch ON only those switches you need for the settings you require, based on the diagram on the underside of the unit.

If you are still having problems I would suggest contacting your regional support team either using the phone numbers on the following page

May 18, 2012 at 12:45 am in reply to: Sync issues w/ HDMI captures

    Hi Brad,

These problems would imply to me that frames are being dropped. If the frame rate didn’t match you would have no picture at all. I would suggest enabling the option to stop capture on dropped frames if there is one in the capture software you are using, or trying with software such as Media Express which does have this option.

I would also try a lower data rate format too and see if the same problem remains. I have seen some motherboards cope nicely with 1080i59.94, but the input signal would drop out with 1080p59.94 because it didn’t have enough bandwidth. I think that because the audio still remains, but the video has problems, this is more likely to be the issue. Sometimes you can improve this if the motherboard has any options to change the PCIe bandwidth, or by moving the card into a slot with more bandwidth.

If you do still have problems however, please do get in touch with your regional support team using the numbers on the following page

May 18, 2012 at 12:14 am in reply to: intensity pro plus hdmi-sdi mini converter

    Hi Steve,

I can’t see any reason this would not work. If you have a TV with an HDMI input, it might be best to check if there’s anything on the output of the Intensity Pro first. There’s very little that can change with the Mini Converter besides audio settings, so I would expect the problem is less likely to do with the Converter and more a settings issue in FCP.

In FCP7 I would make sure that you’re using one of the Blackmagic Easy Setups, and that View->External Video is set to ‘all frames’, and that View->Video Playback is set to the correct Blackmagic setting.

If these are all OK but you’re still having problems, I would suggest contacting your regional support team who should be able to troubleshoot for you. You can find our support numbers on the following page

May 17, 2012 at 12:32 am in reply to: Hyperdeck Shuttle and new SSD (aka OCZ Vertex 4)

    Hi Sebastien,

This week we have had the chance to test the 512GB version of the Vertex 4 here in the Japan office, and we’re seeing exactly the same problem we see with the 128GB version. It is very kind of you to offer, but sending your own disk to us would not be necessary.

There’s a better explanation of the problems that can be seen with some SSDs on our recommended SSD page here

    https://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/detail/supportnotes/supportnote/?sid=3960&pid=3969&os=mac&isSDK=0&snid=23763

I’m not sure if the compression problem we’ve seen with some SSDs is what is causing the problem here, since Disk Speed Test gives good results. But clearly there is something specific to this range of SSDs that causes dropped frames. I’m afraid we don’t have any way of determining where the problem comes from in this office, but the team in Australia may be able to find an explanation.

I recall similar problems with the Crucial M4 512GB, but these now work following a firmware update from the manufacturer. The Vertex range of SSDs are of course very popular so it would be great if a way to get them to work can be found.

    Hi Sebastien,

I’m sorry to hear about your luck with these SSDs. I would certainly suggest using one of the recommended SSDs to guarantee compatibility. Unfortunately speed is not the only factor when using these disks with video data.

We have just last week performed some testing with the 128GB version of the Vertex 4, and indeed it seems to drop frames pretty quickly even with DNxDHD and ProRes on the HyperDeck Studio. I’m afraid we don’t know why this problem occurs, but we will continue testing SSDs for compatibility.

April 26, 2012 at 12:29 am in reply to: Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 and Ultrascope software

    Hi Mike,

It is only possible to use the UltraScope software with the UltraScope and Pocket UltraScope hardware, or products that include UltraScope functionality such as the ATEM 1 and 2 M/E switchers. The Intensity Shuttle as well as other capture cards and devices will not work with the UltraScope software.

April 20, 2012 at 4:18 am in reply to: Will desktop 9.5 capture in FCP X?

    Hi Bernard,

Final Cut Pro X doesn’t itself have a capture function, so it won’t be possible to capture directly. You can however capture using Media Express which is installed with the Desktop Video 9.5 driver, and import the captured video files into FCPX.

April 19, 2012 at 7:17 am in reply to: Problem with Media Express

    Hi Daniel,

It sounds like the problem you are having is most likely related to the graphics card or it’s drivers. Media Express uses the graphics card’s GPU to render it’s preview. It sounds like the card is functioning correctly.

Sometimes you will find some low end graphics cards, in particular integrated graphics, are not able to render the preview. But unless you have changed the hardware in the system I don’t think this will be the issue. If you have the same, or better graphics card installed I think simply updating the graphics driver will help. You should be able to download a driver from the graphics card manufacturer’s site.

I have also seen the same problems with drivers downloaded from Windows Update. These tend to be generic drivers that don’t offer the full acceleration the card can provide. So the latest official graphics driver is the best way to go.

if this doesn’t help please do feel free to contact your regional support office. You can find their numbers on the following page

or you can use the support request form on the Intensity Pro support pages on the website

April 12, 2012 at 12:25 am in reply to: BM Drivers are drivin’ me nuts!!

    Hi Mark,

I’m sorry for the confusion. Desktop Video 9.2 is indeed the current driver for the Intensity Pro. This is the correct and only driver you need to install.

A while ago our capture card drivers were combined into a single package called Desktop Video. v8 was the first to be called this. Before this the Intensity drivers were on version 3.9.X, but these drivers were based on the 7.9.X DeckLink drivers, which is why they appear as 7.9.X.X in certain places.

You should have two Blackmagic entries in the ‘Sound, Video and Game Controllers’ section of Device Manager, one general driver and one for audio. It would however be strange if the card was working but didn’t have both of these. If you are still having problems I would suggest contacting your regional support team. or using the support request form in the Intensity Pro section of the support pages
