Thanks Todd… I’ve tried Pavtube and it recovered one file but couldn’t see the rest. Trying Premiere Pro now.

My personal favorite right now is Design:e2. It’s a PBS doc series about sustainable architecture and design. It is beautifully shot and edited with really good writing to boot. Coming from the corporate video world, this is the kind of look and feel that I often strive for in my productions.
You can now download episodes on iTunes. The episode about the Amsterdams port lands is particularly interesting and beautiful to look at.

Thanks for your replies.
The cameras we are interested in are the HDX 900 (tape based) and the HPX 500 (P2 based). As I understand it, both of these cameras record in the same HD and SD formats, so I don;t feel we are losing anything in terms of quality.
In terms of archiving, this is the strategy we were thinking of if we went P2: We shoot, transfer the footage to the edit system (FCP 6) and then backup all of the footage to a large capacity firewire drive (like a lacie 1 tb drive, which here in Canada I can get for $350). Do you think that this is a viable strategy?
Also, we like to do offlines in the DV codec (25mbs). With tape, we can dig at that resolution and then just hi-res when we are ready. Can you do this with the P2? That is, can we shoot in full HD (1080i@100mbs), transfer it to FCP in a DV sized codec and then later hi-res only the footage that makes it into the final video?
Thanks

The images are still images with a frame size about 800 pixels wide and the video is DV. I am rendering to QT – DV codec
Thanks again,

Is it a firewire drive? If so, I’ve had the same problem. Try manipulating the connector in either the drive or your computer. I’ve had firewire slots break loose in both my powerbook and G5. If that doesn’t work and you are using an 800 cable, try using the 400 cable and the appropriate slots instead. Sometimes I find having the cable angled in a weird way prevents a full connection – it turns the drive on, but is not seen by the G5. If I lift the cable ever so slightly, I can get it to come up.
Hope this helps,
Chris

The text is out of order and kind of piled on top of each other – sort of like the trackiing is set in the negative range. It seems to happen because there is a “throw” on the text layer, plus some other stuff.
When I remove the throw and add position keyframes, the problem disappears.I have a new problem though. Every now and then, for no explicable reason, I get stuck in the hand tool. I’m postivive I haven’t selected it either with the mouse or the keyboard. Everytime I want to do something on the canvas, the hand tool pops up and will move the canvas around. No matter what tool I choose, the hand tool is there until I quit out of Motion. I had this problem in version 1 as well. Anyone seen this?
Thanks

It only happens for a frame at a time.
Thanks

Hi Walter,
Should I leave them in the G5s that we have? Is there a way to make them play nice with the Io
Thanks for the prompt reply

I’ Ven encountered this before…Delete all the renders for the sequence using Render Manager. Quit FCP and restart your computer. Then re-render everything. That is what usually works for us.
Good luck,
Chris
