That sounds odd, to make sure I understand correctly you are saying that the ID3 tag for album has the computer name in there? I wonder if it is the program he is using to create the files initially. What is he using to create the MP3’s? It may have a setting to put that in automatically. One thing to try is to just change the ID3 tag in iTunes (get info on the track) before sending it out.

First thoughts would be to check and make sure your friend created a new user for themselves on the computer and change the computer name in sharing.

January 1, 2008 at 7:10 pm in reply to: Partitioning Advice

You might want to partition it if you want to put an emergency boot on there, or a place to play/test different systems (~20GB). The only other reason I can think of is for backups. If you are running 10.5 you could setup a time machine backup that is constrained to a certain size. If the drive is just for additional storage I’d leave it as one partition.

Have you put the latest firmware update on the Extreme? I have been using it with the Newertech Gmax (raid 1). It works pretty well, but the performance is not great. I am guessing that is why they pulled TimeMachine support from it. On mine I formatted it HFS+ so that I could move files directly.

Did you fill up the hard drive? The data for entourage is stored in the Microsoft user data folder just inside your user folder. See if there is anything in there of decent size.

Since you said the desktop changed it sounds like your user folder got screwed up. Anything else affected?

It should not have even booted from the intel disks. First thing I would do is put the G4 in target mode (hold down the ‘t’ key on boot) and connect it to the MBP and see how bad of shape the drive is in. Since it is a G4 only the drive that is set to master will show up, but at least you can see what is going on and backup what you need (unless the drive is toast). If the drive shows up in Disk Utility, but does not mount, run Disk Warrior on it and see if it can get it back. Unless the drive physically failed my guess is corruption.

I have a number of Sennheiser rigs and they are rock solid. I wouldn’t choose Azden unless price is the primary concern.

Digital Performer for multitrack or Peak for 2 track.

  • Couple of questions:

    1) How many firewire devices do you have plugged in? Do any of them show up?

    2) Does System Profiler show any devices on the Firewire bus?

If you have a QPS drive, unplug it and give it away…

My favorite affordable 2 channel interface is the MobilePre from M-audio (https://m-audio.com/products/en_us/MobilePreUSB-main.html). For more channels take a look at the Traveler from Motu (https://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/traveler) and for simple podcasts take a look at the C01U from Samson (https://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1810&brandID=2) I have ordered one, but it is not here yet so I can’t comment on quality.

  • Couple of questions because it sounds like you have the Cable Modem plugged into the uplink port instead of the Internet/WAN port.

What IP address does you computer get when plugged into the hub/router? If it is either 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x then things are working right but my guess is that you are using the router as a hub instead of a rounter so check to make sure the modem is plugged into the Internet/WAN port.

Post more about your setup if that does not help.
