    Why not just add additional drives?
    Why would you want to partition it? I don’t see any potential advantages to it.

    You might want to partition it if you want to put an emergency boot on there, or a place to play/test different systems (~20GB). The only other reason I can think of is for backups. If you are running 10.5 you could setup a time machine backup that is constrained to a certain size. If the drive is just for additional storage I’d leave it as one partition.

    Its not a real back up if it just on another partition on the same hard drive. If the drive dies then your originals and your backup is gone. You want backups on a completely separate drive.

    Yes, very good point.

    I meant for a backup of the other drive, not what is on the new drive.
