It’s been about 5 years since I worked with it, so my memory is terribly foggy. If I remember correctly, there was an audio channel setting for the option board. I want to say there were 64 channel options you could cycle through.
Also, I ran into the same problem you had if the project settings were not set for 48khz audio. I’m reasonably sure you have that set, as that’s usually the default. But I accidentally had 44.1khz settings and got the dead audio problem.

You’ll be looking at the settings for the AJ-D250P, as they’re very similar decks. Looking at this for the first time in a few years… they don’t show the settings for Premiere Pro, but I think they’re similar settings to the stuff from 6.0 and 6.5. Specifially, you’re looking at the 800 level menu settings. Hopefully this is a good start. Shoot me an e-mail at xfadeservices@gmail.com if you have any other questions.Chris Kelly

I have talked with Mark before, but not on this issue. I may have brought it up with him, but stopped pursuing it because it worked on the system drive. I’ll contact him. Frankly, the reason I brought it up here was I thought it was an OS or hardware thing that someone may have run into here.
Thanks for the help.

Is it possible when you installed the PCIe SATA card, that you changed the settings in the Expansion Slot Utility? We found the video lagging problem is one where the wrong ESU setting was used. Make sure you’re on option 2.

I would highly recommend the “Expansion Slot Utility” that Jeremy suggested. That was our biggest hangup in installing the card.

You probably don’t have an answer for this, but maybe you can ballpark it?
What is “fast enough”? Is Octo-core minimum… or can one of the first generation MacPros do the job?

But did you play with the menu settings on the Panasonic? A few years ago I had a Panasonic AJ-D230 and D250… connected through Firewire. There were very specific settings I needed to make in order for it to work. In fact, when I went to Premiere Pro, I had to get a firmware upgrade to the deck. You might check to see if the firmware is up to date.

Hey Chrispy,
We’re using the Vuetech GPI-Only box. However, they don’t list it on their website. It’s a fantastic product, and if there was enough interest, I would bet they’d bring it back. Basically, it’s got 2 DB9 connectors on it, one for RS-422… and the other for the GPI’s.
As far as VTR-Exchange goes… I’m going to try. I’m going to need to get engineering to make me a RS-422 cable for the Kona. Right now I’m using Stealth port on VirtualVTR and it doesn’t recognize the GPI Converter. Our engineering department needs to get past a pretty big project to retire our Leitch commercial playback and put in a new Omneon server. Once that’s over, I’ll let you know.
My e-mail is cwkelly_2001 [at] yahoo.com. Just e-mail me there and I’ll get right back to you.

If it works, I’m gonna roll up into a little ball and cry for the $1400 I spent on 2 copies of VirtualVTR

We bought a GPI to RS-422 controller. So essentially, when the tally from the control room comes on, it sends a signal to the GPI controller which converts that to the “Play&Rec” command. When the tally goes off, it hits the “stop” button.
I’ll mess around with VTR Exchange and see if it will work. Thanks for the tip!

Haven’t tried it though… it may be worth a look. I think the problem I’m going to run into with it is the RS-422 control.
