So does that mean that all you need to do is record 1080p25 with the camera, and FCP will bring it in as 1080i25 but you tell FCP to have no Field order, thereby making it progressive? Or do you continue to edit in 1080i25 with the two fields somehow making up complete single frames?
How does the PAL version of the HVX200 actually make the 1080p25 video? Is it anything like the way the Sony HDV cameras do it by throwing away a field and duplicating the other?
Also, while we wait for the 720p25 and 720p50 codec, is there any third party software that will convert the DVCPRO HD 720p footage into something like Uncompressed 720p so that FCP can edit it? (We use the 1200 deck to convert varicam footage (DVCPRO HD) to HD-SDI….. we need either a hardware or software solution to do this!

wow – that’s really cool. With a little playing around it’s actually a lot more powerful and controllable then the hue/saturation filter in photoshop/AE.
I particularily like the way you can soften the effect so it’s nice and smooth….
Thanks everyone!

Tried the proc amp filter – and it’s good to do an overall hue shift. But I was wondering if there’s anything where I can apply the shift just to a certain color? In the photoshop/AE filter you can choose to apply the effect only to a certain color range, ie: “magentas”, so that all the other colors don’t change.

sorry about the duplicate posts – my browser froze!

Thanks for that Mariusz, with the AJA specs on their website I got the impression that the 10MD could basically convert anything HD to anything SD.
The other option possible with the varicam in NTSC countries is to go HD-SDI into the 1200 deck (or that other hard-drive recording device from Panasonic I can’t remember it’s name) and then use the firewire out on that to go to a computer to record in DVCPRO100.
But in PAL countries, Apple has not yet blessed us with a DVCPRO codec that will operate with PAL frequencies. Here’s hoping with the new P2 200 camcorder that they’ll release a PAL codec, because otherwise that camera will be unusable in PAL countries. (correct me if I’m wrong)

Yeah – I’ve been looking at the HD10MD.
Can it really do all that? HD 59.94/60 Hz in and NTSC, PAL, out….
What about any devices that go to Firewire? It would be great to hook it up to a laptop direct, rather then having to record on to miniDV first…

February 3, 2006 at 5:03 am in reply to: How to apply speed changes without causing ripple changes in edit???Thanks for that suggestion, indeed it’s another way of doing, but the bad thing is you have to reset the IN / OUT points which is the whole thing I was wanting to avoid in the first place!
Rich, I agree with you, it would be a great nifty feature to have that as a checkbox option in the change Speed dialogue box: to be able to ripple edit or not when you change a clip’s speed on the timeline.

Why don’t you use Compressor to make your MPEG2? Correct me if I’m wrong – but wouldn’t that make a better quality MPEG2 file?
