    Hey all,

I couldnt find a quicktime forum so I am putting it under Final Cut forum as I use this to integrate to DVD Studio Pro.

Quick question, I used to use Quicktime Pro where I use to cut from an Avid then MPEG2 on Quickime then onto DSP.

With the latest version of Quicktime 7.04 I cant encode MPEG2 quality footage (or I cannot see the setting), I can only do it from DSP when I encode the file on build, is there a setting that I am not seeing in Quicktime to encode it manually from Final Cut Pro (I generally make a quicktime ref from Final Cut)

I thank you for your time

Why don’t you use Compressor to make your MPEG2? Correct me if I’m wrong – but wouldn’t that make a better quality MPEG2 file?

No, the quality is the same. Compressor WILL, however, give you more optoins. So you have the ability to do more…perhaps fit more onto a disc. But if you use the same settings you should get the same results between the 2.

Scream: Did you update to QT7 recently? You have to buy QT Pro again with each version. I suspect you upgraded from 6-Pro to 7-regular and that’s why the option is gone. You can buy 7-Pro on the Apple web page. Let us know if that’s not actually the problem…it was just my first guess.

    Hi guys,

I appreciate your replies, I spoke to one of the guys from Apple Support in the States & he said that Compressor uses the engine to export MPEG2 files as Quicktime, but he did mention that Quicktime 7.01 could still perform an MPEG2 export though version 7.04 does allow you to do it, but like we have already said I am best off using compressor anyway.

    Thanks for clearing that us

    Cheers
