Randyj,
Thanks a lot. That is extremely helpful. I would have never known to do that. That is my biggest stumbling block with this program. It is so huge that I just have no idea how to model things I want to model. I just don’t know where to start.
I thought I might be able to do it with the splines but i couldn’t get the thickness.
Do you, or anyone else, know of a good mdoeling training book for C4D that gets into modeling and outside of the basics. Almost like a step above beginner training ?
Thanks again, that really did help tremendously.

capsat,
I actually have CD4 10 at home so if you could send that scene file that would be great, as I am still a little confused.
I added a bend transformer and it seemed to squeeze the capsule where the bend started and it also flattened the end. It wasn’t curved enough.
I didn’t understand the significance of adding the null. Do I just add a null then add the cylinder then add the bend to that. I did add a bunch of height segments.
Thanks for the help.

I do have disk cacheing on. The drive I use for it is about 70% full though.
This isn’t HD footage though. It was actually DVCPro50 footage that was MXF files converted with Raylight. So they are actually Raylight AVI’s.
It does come and go but I hadn’t noticed what type of footage it was when it wasn’t working. I will start tracking it.
Thanks.

Gene,
Thanks. I was just hoping there was a way to skip the Encore step and save a little time but it’s not a big deal.

Second topic inside this:
I exported a direct DVD burn with scene markers as it says to do in the Premiere help. The DVD markers didn’t let me jump from point to point even though when I went through the DVD layout and did a preview it jumped to each marker.
What am I doing wrong here ? The only way I can get a non-menu dvd to have chapter points is through encore at this point it seems. I feel like I am missing something obvious here.
Can anyone help.

You should be able to just go in Effects > Generate > Stroke and adjust from there. If you have multiple masks then check all masks.
For aborder around a mask that is the easiest way to do it.

Clint,
I am pretty new at this but I am pretty sure you wouldn’t be able to use the plug-in for 5.5 in 6.0. I couldnt use the ones from 9.5 of C4d to 9.6. As far as what to use Icouldn’t really tell you as I am using AE 7.0. My best guess is to use the one that says 6.5.

CaptM,
I figured it out from an old post. I guess when I installed 9.6 that it doesn’t overwrite the old plug-ins. I am curious though what you are capable of doing with it in AE. I have read about the ease of use between AE & C4d and wondered what that all entailed. Is there any control of the 3d models once it is taken into AE or is there only control of the different texture layers.
I am totally new at C4d and am trying to learn some basic things quick for an animation of VW Beetles. I got the car from Dosch Design and have colored them and added a logo to the side and am now animating. It is hard because I am not totally sure of what I am doing yet. I bought the Cinema 4d Training R 9.5 from lynda.com but haven’t gone totally through it yet. 3d programs are daunting to say the least so if I don’t give the right info for a question it’s just because sometimes I don’t know that the info is needed yet.
Anyway, thanks for the help, hopefully I will be more thorough next time I have a question.
Thanks.

That brings up another question:
When I bring a New Bars & Tone into Premiere it sets the level at -12. I figured that was where I should set my projects in Premiere to be for final output.
The issue I run into is this:
I run througth Firewire to a DV deck. The deck runs into a mixer. Generally everything we send out goes onto Beta for delivery. The problem is this. When I go into the BETA I get the tone to be 0db on the VU meter. Without fail the audio levels I see are always way low.
To get any type of level above say -10db i have to set my Premiere project to around -6.
So what is the equivalent from VU to the Premiere settings? Do I need to ride the board after I’ve got the tone recorded? It’s kind of confusing. I never had this issue until I went to DV.

Awesome. Thanks guys. That right there is enough for me to start pushing for and HD camera and actaully have something behnd it. Especially since we are a little ways off from having the need for Full HD capabilities.
My hope is that once (if) we get the new camera and the bigs see the stuff we will push ahead a little quicker.
Just the fact that using HD for keys is better already since I do all that in AE anyway and if I can get sharper keys that would be excellent.
Thanks again.
