[Craig Seeman] “someone is then put off by the forum because informative debate is obscured by derogatory comments”

Well, we all are human after all. (winky emoticon here)

Extremely well said. I would also like to add that I have thought more, intellectually, about editing while participating in this debate, then I have in a long time. It has been very refreshing.

And, hey man, I’m a Freddy fan, too.

To quote your initial post: I do mostly short videos or commercials and spend most of my time in After Effects and just use FCP as a compositor.

With that in mind, I would think the choice of Premiere would be relatively clear. Premiere’s editorial functionality is more like FCP than Avid. You can open old FCP files in Premiere. AND, the lion’s share of your work is in AE, which links very tightly with Premiere in the CS suite. As I’ve said, my get away is Avid, but that’s because it fits very nicely with the kind of work I do. I do, however, understand the allure, and am quite enjoying re-uping with Avid.

[Scott Sheriff] “Your post is a perfect example of the proverbial “pot calling the kettle black”. Not only do you, and the glee club literally jump on every post you disagree with, but then you wrote this:
“I also understand that discussion here on the COW should never be stifled, but some of the posts are not discussion they are simply people forcing their opinions on posters who never asked for it.”
Did your OP contain any Final Cut discussion, or was it just you forcing your opinion on us? Or was it an attempt to stifle the opposition, by noting right off the top that the post contained “Some thought(sic) from an e-mail I have recently sent to Ronald Lindeboom”. Your OP wreaks of hypocrisy.”

Gotta say that I agree. I’ve been in the middle of discussions where I’ve been diagnosed as a hater because I’m talking about functions I don’t like. I’ve been singled out as a problem an have basically been told to move on.

  • [Lance Bachelder] “PS – Is Craig Seeman the biggest pest in the history of the Cow or what? FCPX will NEVER be widely adapted in the pro world – it’s complete crap.”

I fear, Lance, that you are speaking out of your hat. Craig, while far more an evangelist for FCP X than I could currently possibly be, has been fair and even-handed in his acknowledgments of FCP X’s weaknesses. We both have strong areas of disagreement about FCP X’s value, yet he has earned my respect, and further, I have learned things of value from him. Sadly, I find myself having to post statements like this more often than I would like.

[Ronald Schot] “Chris, i have only final cut pro 7.3.0.”

Ah. This is a FCP X forum, but, are you sending your timelines or files to compressor? In Compressor, you’ll find the DVD settings you seem to not be finding. They are there as default files.

[Gary Huff] “Why aren’t more people doing that if it’s so killer?

Because I can’t build a list? I like mobility. I like the option of going off to a coffee shop, and sometimes do with my laptop and a g-raid mini. Since I often have to break locked picture down into a selects bin, a little pad that lets me punch i/o as I watch a proxy of my project for the first time would be just the ticket. Then, my list goes into the full NLE for further work. Does that really seem so foreign a desire?

I should add that I would be happy to pay $299 for any software that would let me do that, even if it is built from the ashes of my favorite NLE.

The sad thing is, he goes on to confuse one of the original poster’s responses, then accuses him of being a hater, too.

Ronald, do you have compressor, or just FCP X?

I do understand your sensitivity, but–if I may–I’d like to point out that it was Josh who posed the topic question. I do believe he was in earnest, and that he was simply responding to the suggestion–however insincere that suggestion was–that he wait.
