These definitly are two unrelated issues. However as far as the firewire goes, if its not being recognized by any other sources, chances are the board is fried.

Take the camera to a professional facility. Many times i’ll see camera lenses come in with solvant leaked into them, scratches on the lenses because of wiping them incorrectly, etc. These types of lenses have different layers to them so its possible any artifacts you find may not always be on the surface. Find a place with a clean room.

Yeah, the unit will not function properly at ALL if the tape carriage is not functioning. Especially if there might be worn out or damaged parts. Best bet is to find a place that does free estimates if you dont want to spend too much initially but still need to get a diagnosis.

It more than likely IS the CCD. JVC would probably replace the board. The place I work at doesnt charge an estimate to look at it. But I cant “advertise” here lol.

Honestly, depending on the type of problem the camera is having, it may not be worth repairing. Especially if it is a problem on the main board or the lens. Your best bet would be to find a facility that offers FREE estimates..

I had a few customers with this issue before. I decided to post the standard procedures to avoid this issue. Sorry if it seemed a bit cryptic.

Have you ever encounted a “Blue Screen” issue when capturing to the HP using your EX1? Or do you just capture straight to the MAC?

The problem is moisture. The different climates def. had a hand in this debacle. Once moisture enters the boards, it starts to corrode the circuts. I have seen this in MANY of the units brought in to me for repair.

A second opinion is always a good thing. Especially when your not charged for the estimate. I can help with that
