    24 gigs of RAM
Media is mostly photos and prores QT in a bunch of 1080P Prores timelines. Largest photos are about 3000pix wide.
    Only about 18gigs for everything.
    Premiere project is 20 mb.
I have turned off my Kona monitoring, since I was getting a lot of crashes as well.

I forgot to add – using CS6 fully updated.

OK, I will go the mixdown route.
Does anybody know if this is just a prores problem, or
is it risky doing exports to certain other codecs as well?
    Thanks

Oh, and I realize that I won’t get real-time full-res performance. I was just hoping to get enough playback performance to do the content cut reasonably accurately.
I’m not too concerned about the quality at this stage – when I send everything to AE, I will render out my HD streams at full quality.

I am using the Quadro 4000 and I do have a RAID for storage. I am concerned about RAM, and if I start to slow down, then that will definitely be my first thing to address.
The reason I was hoping to use the native RED files is for the integration with AE. I would be linking to the exact same files and all of my scaling and cropping would not have to be re-done.
If I was going to render out DNXHD files (which I still might do), then I would probably cut in Avid since it is my preferred editor and export through automatic duck or AAF directly to AE. The only issue with that is that I would probably have to relink every file manually in AE, as well as redo all of the scaling and positioning.
I am still exploring all of the options at this point.

I mean that the crop effect can’t be rendered.
Yeah, I just tried it..seems to work fine.

Thanks for your suggestions. I ended up going into Redcine and used it to scale to proresHQ1080.
This worked for a few clips…and then I started getting bugginess and corrupt files (freeze frame issue).
So I ended up doing all the scaling in AE and rendering out to prores – this worked fine.
Next time we will shoot 23.98!!
    Thanks

The DOP accidentally mistakenly shot at 29.97 thinking this would be the way to go since the final output is 59.94 HDCAM. We know now that this was a mistake, and we should have gone with 23.98, but we were trying to avoid having to do a crop to 1920×1080 and adding pulldown on output through the Kona at the same time(which I’m pretty sure is not even possible) at the same time. I’m not that familiar with the settings inside the camera itself…can you shoot 120fps mapped on to 29.97fps
with a frame size of 1920×1080 instead of 2k?

When you say there are no sequence presets for 29.97, you are talking about FCP right? I know you have to modify your settings in FCP, but I can’t figure out how to play back through the Kona at 2048
(cropping to 1080)and also at a frame rate of 29.97 (59.94).
Maybe it’s not even possible? All of the options in the Kona for 2k seem to be 23.98 or 24.

I have been working a lot with Prores and Prores HQ in HD.
I have noticed that HQ stands up a lot better to further rendering in FCP than
non HQ…even with just one render pass.
It’s especially noticeable in areas of high movement…HQ shows a lot less noise and artifacting.
