Opening and closing projects takes forever
Posted by Chris Coote on January 9, 2013 at 7:29 pmEvery time I open or close a project, it takes 5 to 10 minutes.
What is going on here? My project files and media are on a terrablock partition and I am using an 8 core mac pro running 10.7.4.
My project files are not that large or complicated.
This problem is happening on more than 1 machine on more than 1 project.
Any ideas?Carson Porter replied 12 years, 6 months ago 6 Members · 14 Replies -

January 9, 2013 at 8:01 pmCan you give a bit more detail on your system specs, what kind of media, how long the project is, how many assets in the project. How much RAM?
Thanks.

January 9, 2013 at 8:46 pm24 gigs of RAM
Media is mostly photos and prores QT in a bunch of 1080P Prores timelines. Largest photos are about 3000pix wide.
Only about 18gigs for everything.
Premiere project is 20 mb.
I have turned off my Kona monitoring, since I was getting a lot of crashes as well. -

January 9, 2013 at 10:39 pmWell you have a decent chunk of RAM so that’s good. How many assets total in the project? How much memory is Premiere Pro taking up in your Mac? Is it growing slowly over time even if you do nothing? What is the bit depth of your photos?
Pulling the Kona card temporarily is a good idea to limit the variables.

Does the delay still happen if you move the project file and open locally?

January 10, 2013 at 5:45 pm8 bit photos – only about 150 total assets.
I have premiere set to use 20gigs of the available RAM.“Is it growing slowly over time even if you do nothing?”
Not sure what you mean by this? -

January 10, 2013 at 5:48 pmI moved the whole project over to a RAID setup to see if the problem was
with the fibrechannel terrablock system, but no change.
Still multiple crashes and opening and closing projects takes forever. -
