Prores exports
I need to deliver ProresHQ Quicktime files from my Avid Symphony (V6.03).
My timeline is all DNX220X. Would I be better off doing a direct export to prores from avid, or doing a mixdown of my sequence to ProresHQ MXF
and then doing a same as source export? I did a quick test and it looks
like there is a slight gamma change between the 2. My color bars are also getting clipped at zero (no darker than black) on the direct to prores export. Just wondering what other people are doing. -

Mixdown first seems to fix the problem

Mixing down and exporting same as source is the way to go and not get the gamma shift issues.

OK, I will go the mixdown route.
Does anybody know if this is just a prores problem, or
is it risky doing exports to certain other codecs as well?

I’d always try to avoid using the Quicktime encoders for codecs like ProRes and H264. x264 and Main Concept H264 seem to suffer less from gamma shifts than Apple’s H264.
