Yes, they should line up cut for cut. But the QT reference will have continuous timecode from the beginning to the end, and the original clips from which the QT reference was made each have individual timecodes (as well as tape sources) that have nothing to do with the QT reference. So your edl will never properly match the QT reference: the source columns will be referencing timecodes that don’t exist in it.
In essence, I guess, you could use a text editor and change all “sources” to your QT file, and then simply copy the “record side” timecodes into the “source side” columns. That might work.

I’m not sure you can do this. The reference QT will have only continuous timecode, if it has timecode at all, and presumably your various clips had timecodes referencing multiple source clips, correct? If so, then your timecodes will never match your QT ref, no matter what the tape name is.
Am I understanding your situation correctly?

I’d think, worst case, you’d just have to pay the upgrade from your last “boxed set” to the current version, whatever that may be. I’m worried about Adobe getting stupid with licensing too, but I gotta say, I’m loving the cloud subscription right now. I can easily move from work to home by simply deactivating one or the other, etc. Very nice. Plus, being able to go from Mac to PC and back is also a huge bonus.

I like the Rode, but LOVE the Audio Technica BP4025, although it’s a tad above your price point. As with many things audio related, what’s best is often subjective.

Actually this isn’t quite true in my case. I’ll often put titles ID-ing VFX on a specific track, say v5, so that I can turn them off if I’m doing an output, but they’re visible when doing work so I know where my VFX are and what their status is. Lots of reasons for a track-based workflow.

Job’s advice is good. I installed PT on top of my Avid install a while back and over time started having some audio driver issues. When I recently uninstalled both and installed them in the “correct” way, the problems went away. I’d recommend being safe over sorry, even though it can be a bit of a PITA.
