The graph can show you temporal or spatial views by the way. You just have to select from the bottom which view you want.

April 21, 2013 at 8:20 pm in reply to: Level Out Audio in Premiere Pro to -6db without using SoundBooth? If you look at the Audio Mixer panel, there is a “master” channel all the way to the right, with a blue volume slider. This represents your output audio. You can apply effects to this channel which in turn will affect the entirety of your other tracks simultaneously. See this tutorial:

The “dynamics” effect has a hard limit tick box you can check and set for -6.

Yes, that is just to help your machine play back the footage with greater ease. There is also a drop down panel in the lower right corner of the program monitor where you can select full, 1/2 or 1/4 playback resolution.

If you view the property using the graph display, you should immediately see what the issue is. What you think are plain old linear keyframes are actually bezier and have handles for ease-in and ease-out that have been adjusted.
If you select the keyframes and right click on them, you will get a menu in which you can choose “keyframe interpolation”, or something like that. Then make sure all the properties are set to linear. Now when you look at the graph you should see straight lines only!

February 12, 2013 at 4:50 am in reply to: how to screen out black from a layer but then use in a precompThe way I’m reading this is it’s not a pre-multiplication issue. This isn’t just an edge problem at all. It’s not having an alpha for the flame footage. And when he brings the candle/flame precomp into his main comp, the screen mode is also making the candle transparent along with the flame. At least that’s how I took his problem.
Craig, your time to chime in….

February 12, 2013 at 3:10 am in reply to: how to screen out black from a layer but then use in a precompI suppose an easier way would be to comp in just the candles first, without flames. Then place duplicates of the flame animation in your main composition over each candle, scaling down for the ones in the background, and only screen these layers. An added bonus is you can now re-time the flames slightly for each candle so the flicker animates differently.

If you know about track mattes, I bet you could use that black dust point to create a sort of luma mask attached a blurred out version of your BG. Then it would be much less visible.

And keying the footage, or using the green channel, to make a track matte doesn’t work?

Also, don’t double grain your footage. Use the lettering as a matte for adding grain only where it is needed inside the text.
