[tmvc] “how was editing in Adrenaline for HD – smooth? no probs? any render issues?

Aside from the transcoding confusion listed above, it was.. OK. You know how nicely responsive the jkl keys are on the Media composers (for quickly playing/reversing/pausing)? Well, not so smooth here. Somewhat sluggish and sloppy, kinda like an Xpress. For now though, I’m going to account most of the errors I’m seeing to my own lack of time on the system. Hell, I’ve still got crap in the WinXP system tray that needs gutting. But that said, I’m seeing some project corruptions (in 1080i 59.94)… but no crashes yet. No render issues either, but it’s only v2.0.2 of the software.

    what drives are you using?”
He he, this is the funny part. I’ve got https://www.avid.com/products/mediaDockUltra320/. They’re damn reliable… just a s Avid says… but yopu’ve gotta get them into a soundproof rack or another room. Lets just say, it’s a symphony of ShopVacs.

. . . I’m curious why the Cow’s FCP thread has so many people posting tech q’s.

    I’m really curious.

[wildmangoose] “final cut pro is better then avid”

Reminds me of the print ad that had a dude in a Boston hat sitting between two big guys on a NY subway wearing Yankees gear. Brass B’s, man!

Anyhoo, it looks like you’ve already answered your question – and that’s good because you know your needs best. It all depends on your needs. I know of folks that worked on FCP for years, took one look at Avid’s title tool and filled their shorts with Jergens. It’s cuz they had more need for titling than graphics. Some Avid folks see that you can just lasoo a whole audio track in FCP, click on a couple things in pull-down menus and whammo! You’ve got yourself a split-audio mix. Again, why would an off-line editor care about that?

Many people here might disagree with me, but my biggest sell is the face that FCP is less hardware-based than my Media Composer. I’ve been on a number of Mac & Windows Avids and and equal number of FCP Macs. The Avids react and interact better. Not always faster, mind you, but better. Less video refresh problems. Less rendering. More true-to-the-mix where audio is concerned.

Sounds like you’re already convinced though. You wording is like my wife’s when I walk in the door at 2am.
