  • that looks correct to me, although it appears maybe that 1-6 are not assigned in the mixer.

When you import that file into premiere are you getting all 8 tracks
    with audio only on 7 & 8?

They make it sound like if you imported you would only see wave forms in one of the tracks.

I don’t believe the last step in quicktime was necessary.

I always check my exports by re-importing them in premiere…there is a bug in cc 2015.2
where if you do what you did with but with surround stems, the first channel has all
the audio multiplexed and the remaining channels are completely empty! But it looks like
you might be on CC 2014 or earlier because your Audio Channel Config tab doesn’t have the
“Export as seperate files” check box, which is a work around to this bug. This is not
part of your issue, just thought I’d add it in for anyone else reading.

I’ve noticed that using Lumetri for color correction does slow things down,
but the Fast Corrector does not. Though it’s usefulness is limited beyond white balancing/basic shot matching.

    ya that’s not basic that’s cutting/bleeding edge.

Have you tried lowering the playback resolution in the program monitor?

For me to edit 4k smoothly it needs to be bumped down to mid to lowest
    setting.

What are you playing the 4k footage from? That could be a bottle neck as well.

sure (I’ve got a Kona-3G myself) but I’d be surprised if the MacPro couldn’t do multichannel hdmi out.

    then again…maybe not. heheh

Tero, is the mac he has, incapable of multi-channel audio over hdmi?

Sounds like the connections are in order.

I would next verify your channel routing in premiere.

Surround stems should all be in a multichannel sequence (6 mono channels for 5.1) then in the mixer window route each track to outputs 1/2. 3/4. 5/6 then pan each one left/right.

Are you seeing audio metering in 5.1 in premier?

How are you connecting from the mac to the receiver?

If you connect a blu-ray player with a 5.1 movie in the
exact same manor, is it in stereo or 5.1?

I will say with mxf footage from Sony FS7, though I do not transcode,
it sometimes stutters at first when starting playback at the very beginning
of a sequence but then is butter smooth right after and it doesn’t always do that.

Also, if I render the sequence it never ever stutters…with all native .mxf

8 core mac pro tower, 32gb of ram, Nvidia GTX 680, Raid 5 pci-e direct connect. (caldigit HDOne)

one thing to consider (and possibly related), the last few iterations of CUDA have been
under performing. (at least for me and my setup)

I did a multicam 2hr 14 min edit recently, with CUDA enabled it
was completely useless…switching to OpenCL it performed very smooth.

This was 3 camera angles all MTS (canon) footage, 1080i.

I have not need to transcode any footage since making the switch to CS 5.5 years ago (now on CC 2015.2)
    and I’m thankful for that.

  • do they have .dv or .mov extension?

can you open one in quicktime and does it play it?
