Most often if its playing not in realtime your throughput is just not enough.
a RAID setup of some kind is pretty much required if you want smooth consistent playback.

I have 2 macpro octocore editing systems with 16gb of ram running 10.6.8
with CS 6, quadro 4000 cards and Raid 5 disk arrays.Since I switched over from fcp, I have never had the need to transcode anything.
I’ve mixed: AVCHD (sony nxcam), sony F65, Red .r3d and canon dslr h.264 files
It plays smooth as butter literally.
I’ve not yet done anything in xdcam and have heard some people having issues.
If you have a fairly new (2009 or newer) system with lots of ram, a CUDA supported
card, and a fast RAID of some kind, the results seem to be good. -

the size won’t determine the performance. It’s the decoding for playback and AVCHD is pretty intensive.
stack a few layers and you’ll hit a performance wall for sure if you’ve only got a single sata storing them.
If you can do at least a RAID zero setup, I would bet that would help big time.
Some kind of RAID is pretty much a requirement these days if you want native smooth playback
with the current camera formats. -
I have black magic multibridge on one mac (8 core with 16gb of ram and quadro 4000 on both)
and a decklink studio on the other.I’m having no trouble at all with avchd editing (what I mostly work with)
I’m also running 10.6.8, but I have very fast RAID 5 disk arrays.
what storage are you using?
that could be a big part of the problem.
There are MANY of us still using 10.6.8
with CS 6 and having no trouble at all. -
I think its a mercury transmit/adobe issue.
the aja cards seem to have it as well for some folks.

well turns out its not likely my Quadro.
removed it and put back in old card and it still locks up.
trying memory tests next.

As you know from a previous post, one of my quadro4K mac systems is acting
a lot like yours.I don’t have any ups software installed though.
I’ve arranged a replacement for another quadro from PNY.
hoping that solves the problem.

could be the GOP structure on that particular recording
is wonky and premiere isn’t recognizing all of them.fortunately most of those dvd to video file utilities can reconstruct
and give you the full duration.another freeware that converts vob to other codecs is mpeg stream clip.
i use it just about every week. -

what you see is what you get.
all you can do now is learn from it.
It actually doesn’t look too bad for what it is.
if it was really badly out of focus it would have to be reshot.
