Issues with PPro CS6
A while ago I switched from FCP7 to Premiere, like so many others. Recently I also upgraded to CS6. I mostly work with AVCHD files. At the moment I am working on a documentary. It involves a lot of AVCHD files and extra mp3 audio files for the interviews which were recorded seperately. I also recently replaced my Kona LHe card for a Blackmagic Intensity Pro, since the Kona LHe does not support CS6 anymore (shame on you AJA!).
All the time now I have issues. Playback goes badly; stutters a lot even at 1/4 of the resolution. Video monitoring freezes sometimes. All the time the audio goes out of sync. And it is not something that stays the same. Sometimes this goes bad, sometimes something else. It is really very annoying and I do not know where to look for the solution. Only feeling I have is that the project is too heavy for PPro. Can anybody point me to the right direction?Kool En De Anderen

Well AVCHD is a resource hog of a codec and you’d be better off making wavs out of the mp3 files.

Agreed, try not to edit with mp3’s, also, saw where Adobe tech guy says 10.6.8 will run CS6 but you have better results with 10.7.x

I know if you want to take advantage of the Adobe Transmit technology with Kona3 , you must be on 10.7. That might be the case with BMD hardware as well.

I’ve got 12 gigs of RAM installed and from all the answers I do understand that i am putting a heavy load on both the hard ware and the soft ware. I do not have an Nvidia card installed, so I am not using the Mercury engine. Well, OK, fair enough. Thanks for the reactions

CUDA doesn’t currently accelerate AVCHD decoding, but if you’re applying effects it could ease-up on the CPU. Its not the magic bullet though. I’d try Lion as Tom suggested and go from there. MLion is being released today so if you’ve held off, its time!

What exactly does Lion do better then Snow Leopard for PPro? I held back on Lion since it doesn’t support Rosetta anymore

I have black magic multibridge on one mac (8 core with 16gb of ram and quadro 4000 on both)
and a decklink studio on the other.I’m having no trouble at all with avchd editing (what I mostly work with)
I’m also running 10.6.8, but I have very fast RAID 5 disk arrays.
what storage are you using?
that could be a big part of the problem.
There are MANY of us still using 10.6.8
with CS 6 and having no trouble at all. -
Well, I thought that since AVCHD files are small in comparison to ProRez for example, that your drives didn’t have to be so fast. I am running on an internal SATA drive

the size won’t determine the performance. It’s the decoding for playback and AVCHD is pretty intensive.
stack a few layers and you’ll hit a performance wall for sure if you’ve only got a single sata storing them.
If you can do at least a RAID zero setup, I would bet that would help big time.
Some kind of RAID is pretty much a requirement these days if you want native smooth playback
with the current camera formats.
