You should definitely have at least 16gb of ram installed. minimum for octocore.
I’m pretty much on the same setup with 2 systems running snow leopard and
both run great for every day use. -
I have 2, 2009 macpro octocore systems with BMD hardware,
16gb of ram, Nvidia Quadro 4000s in each and external Raid 5 storage.Both of them perform great with CS 6.01 and render very quickly.
Been using them for a year now and sometimes client supervised sessions.
Running 10.6.8 on both.

should be noted the Vimeo specs are about the same but they
recommend:2,500 kbps for SD video
5,000 kbps for HD video
Stick to those for Vimeo as they stream the exact file you upload,
any higher and it will likely stutter on lower end systems. -
open the encoded file you uploaded to youtube on your system…is it 1080?

Yes absolutely worth it.
It really speeds things along. It also provides real time playback
in some situations that would require rendering if you didn’t have the Quadro. -

DV does support 23.976, though which method I’m not sure.
If I encode it with apple compressor, then open it in quicktime
and do get info it says 23.98Everything coming out of AME is 29.97
When I get quicktime movies at 23.98 for sweetening in protools
ame cannot be used. -
I have the preset.
I have checked media info – it reports 29.97
Spent lots of time trying to solve it.
AME is encoding to 29.97 even though I set it for 23.976 preset.
MAC version by the way.
It wouldn’t surprise me if not many people use that preset which
might be why hardly anyone has noticed.To get work done, I’ve been reverting to Apple Compressor,
but I prefer to use AME as much as possible. -
Thanks Tero, I am fully aware of that.
The point is Adobe Media Encoder cannote encode
to a DV 23.976 format which is often used
in ProTools for picture reference. -
