I’m doing what you describe with ReelDVD.

I do this a lot for home movie transfers.

I go directly from a camera live to the DVD-Recorder though
and skip the tape step. If music is to be added, I record
to DVD-RAM then rip/demux the .m2v video streams.

I bring those into ReelDVD then drop the music right
over it. I made a DVD-ROM full of licensed music with
both pcm .wav files and dolby .ac3 files. I always use
the .ac3 files to keep compatability and playback to
a maximum. Then I build the disc from ReelDVD and burn it. Done.

simply adding audio streams to an mpeg2 video only stream should
not require any re-encoding. I wonder if there is an option somewhere
in ulead to turn it off.

It’s very easy with ReelDVD as it creates an I-Frame
for every still photo you drop in. You set the duration
you want it to run and thats it.

what authoring software are you using?

WinDVD and PowerDVD can both do this.

I know WinDVD can copy to the clipboard.

whatever you do, be sure and resize the picture
to 640×480 so your aspect ratio is right.

if it’s an anamorphic DVD resize it to 864×480

a 4mbps stream is extremely low.

It should be around 5-7 for best looking quality
and playback.

as an alternative you could render out to
a quicktime file as well.

most compositing apps support that format.

Get your bitrate down to around 5-6.

use dolby for audio not L-PCM (if you are)

make sure your using good quality media.

that should clear it up.
