The 23/24 setting is strictly for HD-SDI output. It is not for use with firewire. FCP should have a setting in the easy set-up to remove the extra frames on import so you can get 1080 24p (aka 23.98). This is asuming you shot 24pA.

You need to turn on the AWB offset.
FILM MENU….MENU 4….OPTION….AWB OFFSET (TURN ON)
Now you can keep your RGB gain setting when you white balance.

While I have never used it, I believe the varicam has an auto white balance feature. Perhaps both cameras had this feature enabled. That could cause the color balance to shift.

I’ll add my 2 cents… shoot everything at 60p. The memory you save on the P2 cards will amount to nothing compared with the editing problems you’re going to have in post.
P2 storage is very manageable with a P2 store, powerbook, or Firestore. I would put your energy into proper data management on your shoot.

No upconversion is possible via firewire. Only HD-SDI.
